    Rotoscoping

Rotoscoping has often been used as a tool for visual effects in live- action movies. By tracing an object, the moviemaker creates a silhouette (called a matte) that can be used to extract that object from a scene for use on a different background. While blue- and green- screen techniques have made the process of layering subjects in scenes easier, rotoscoping still plays a large role in the production of visual effects imagery. Rotoscoping in the Betweenfx is often aided by motion-tracking and onion-skinning software. Rotoscoping is often used in the preparation of garbage mattes for other matte-pulling processes

  • Paint And Prep

VFX prep and paint are crucial steps in the visual effects pipeline, ensuring that the elements integrated into a shot blend seamlessly with live-action footage. VFX prep involves preparing and organizing assets, including cleaning up or fixing problematic areas in a shot, such as removing unwanted elements or correcting imperfections. Paint artists typically use digital tools to address issues like wires, rigs, or reflections that disrupt the visual continuity. They also ensure consistency in color grading and texture across various layers of the scene, providing a polished look. This meticulous work ensures that visual effects elements, like CGI characters or environments, appear natural and convincing when integrated into the final composition.

    Matchmove

Matchmove also known as camera tracking, is a critical process in visual effects that involves replicating the movement of the real-world camera in a digital environment. This allows for the seamless integration of CGI elements with live-action footage, ensuring that digital objects appear to move realistically within the scene. The process begins by analyzing the footage to track specific points or features in the environment, which helps reconstruct the camera’s movement in 3D space. Once the camera is matched, 3D models, animated characters, or other VFX elements can be added and aligned with the real-world footage. Matchmoving is essential for maintaining spatial coherence, perspective, and scale, making sure that visual effects feel grounded and believable in the context of the live-action shot.

  • Composting

VFX compositing is the process of combining multiple visual elements from different sources into a final shot to create a seamless, cohesive image. This involves layering live-action footage with computer- generated imagery (CGI), matte paintings, and other visual effects elements, ensuring they blend together in a natural and realistic way. Compositing artists work to match lighting, shadows, and color grading across all layers to ensure consistency, while also fine-tuning details like reflections, depth of field, and integration of elements with the background. This process can also include removing unwanted objects, fixing mistakes, or adding final touches like glow, smoke, or particle effects. The goal of compositing is to create the illusion that all elements, whether practical or digital, belong to the same world and work together harmoniously within the shot.
